MUSSELBURGH WINDSOR 3 MYS BLACKS 1, 24-02-2008
A disappointing result with the boys looking a touch jaded after a hard work out yesterday - but another game where things didn't really go our way.
The first of 2 x 25-minute periods was evenly contested, with Youngstars coming close three times. Aaron O'Donnell, guesting in defence, almost scored from a corner by Seth with a great twisting header, then Dylan (our second guest) put Seth through with a smart throw-in, but the keeper was down quickly to smother. Lloyd then came very close when the goalie parried his shot and the ball looped up and onto the post - about the 200th time Lloyd has hit the post or bar this season!
Windsor also had a few chances and took the lead just before half-time when a long clearance beat the defence and their striker thumped a brilliant left-foot shot high into the net.
In the second half, Youngstars struggled to close the Windsor players down. The home team were making it very hard for us to get forward by harrying and hassling all over the pitch and looked hungrier for the ball. They went 2-0 up with another excellent finish after we failed to clear on the edge of our box. It was 3-0 soon afterwards, following more sloppy defending, but Youngstars the produced their best spell of the match. Paul pulled one back after some lovely inter-passing, then almost added a second when his shot was saved and Lloyd's goalbound rebound was blocked. We pushed hard in the last five minutes but had left it too late. To be fair, it could have been more as David made two or three excellent saves.

BLUES AT THEIR BEST
MINI-TOURNAMENT; ABERLADY, MYS BLACK STRIPES AND MYS BLUE STRIPES AT WALLYFORD, 23-02-2008
Each team played two 15-minute games against both other teams, so there was one hour of football for each squad. Each team had two 15-minute periods playing with the strong wind and two against it. The wind was a big factor, but credit to all three teams for playing good football in tricky conditions - and interestingly, only three of the six games were won by the team with the wind behind them. The team playing with the wind is named first - and sorry if I have any details mixed up!
MYS BLACKS 1 ABERLADY 0
After a swirling Cammy Brown corner was scrambled away for another corner-kick, Connor flicked in to make it 1-0 for the blacks, who held on fairly comfortably in a very solid performance. Well done to Connor - 2 goals in 2 weeks and to Cammy Dunlop for some tight marking on Aberlady's danger man, Ben.
MYS BLUES 3 MYS BLACKs 1
David came out to play up front for the blacks, but struggled for possession as the blues pinned them back. Seth, in his first game in goal for some time, found it tough in the swirling wind. Aaran Currie put the blues ahead and Euan and Blair Millar added two more. Cammy Brown gave blacks hope with a good finish after excellent work by Blair Currie (to make it 2-1) but blues were always on top with Aaron O'Donnell and Dylan rock-solid at the back.
ABERLADY 2 MYS BLUES 3
The best game of the day. Aaran Currie scored with a swirling shot before a brilliant move ended with Euan making it 2-0. Dylan was unlucky to flick in a corner for a headed own goal to make it 2-1, then Aberlady scored late to make it 2-2 - but Liam, who was full of running, made it 3-2 at the death.
ABERLADY 3 MYS BLACKS 1
Aberlady dominated the game with the wind and scored two good goals to take a firm grip. Paul pulled one back after Lloyd set him up, but slack defending let Aberlady score a third.
MYS BLACKS 0 MYS BLUES 1
Funny game. Blacks had the majority of the play and came close to scoring three or four times before Aaran Currie ran clear down the left to score blues only real chance. Seth had two great runs down the right and set up David for what looked like a certain equaliser in the last minute but Ross made a brilliant diving save.
MYS BLUES 1 ABERLADY 1
Aberlady went ahead with a great long-range effort but Blair Millar kept Youngstars in it with an amazing one-handed save. Aaran Currie thought he had equalised when the Aberlady keeper couldn't hold his shot, but then clawed it back from the goal-line. Dave, who was reffing, couldn't be sure it had gone in, so felt he couldn't give the goal. Bues picked up the initiative again and Euan, who played well in all the games, shot in a fine equaliser to retain their unbeaten record.
BLACKS: David, Jack, Connor, Cammy D, Cammy B, Jason, Blair, Lloyd, Paul, Seth
BLUES: Ross, Blair, Aaron O, Dylan, Aaran C, William, Euan, Matthew, Liam, Nathan

FUNNY GAME AT FERNIESIDE
FERNIESIDE 4 MYS BLACKS 1
Football is a funny old game, as they say, and so it was today. Youngstars played some lovely passing football and created enough chances to win the match comfortably - but a combination of bad luck and a brilliant performance by the Fernieside keeper left us with a scoreline that did us no justice.
The first of two 25-minute halves started well, with Youngstars putting together some nice moves - and we went 1-0 up when Connor collected a clearance about 18 yards from goal before lashing a great shot high into the net.
We could have gone further ahead when Seth broke through and hit a powerful shot high towards the top corner, only for the Ferniesdie keeper to make a great one-handed save.
The home team came back into the game but David was solid in goal, with good defending from Jack and Connor, and it took a well-worked goal to bring them level a minute before half-time. A clever pass just dipped in behind our defence for their striker to volley in well.
We went 2-1 down early in the second half but should have drawn level when Seth couldn't quite poke the ball in from close range. Fernieside came straight back down the other end and a fairly weak shot took a horrible bounce in the bumpy area and shot across David and into the corner.
Fernieside made it 4-1 when a deflected shot squirmed in, but Youngstars never let their heads drop and Callum had a brilliant curling shot volleyed off the line, Lloyd hit the post and Cammy Brown curled a shot just over. In addition, Lloyd and Paul both had several good efforts saved by the keeper.
On another day, we could have won this game, but today it just didn't go for us. But all credit to all the boys for some excellent football and never letting their heads drop. Cammy D got Player of The Week for another solid display at the back.

FANTASTIC WIN 03/02/2008
MYS BLACK STRIPES 5 TYNECASTLE BOYS 4
A brilliant performance from all the boys - the win could have been much clearer if we had taken more of our chances and hadn't let in three goals direct from corners.
Youngstars took the lead when Jason worked a neat short corner with Lloyd and crossed hard and low for Seth to slot the ball in. Lloyd hit the bar and there were several more close calls until Tynecastle came back into the game when a fierce long-range effort beat Callum, deputising for David in goal.
Youngstars were still having much the better of the game and just before the first 15 was up, Blair slipped a neat pass through to Seth, who hit the ball across the keeper into the corner for his second goal, to put us 2-1 up.
The wind was playing a big part in the game and Tynecastle equalised for a second time when a corner swung right under the bar and into the far corner. Callum was not at fault at all and he made some good saves and distributed the ball well.
Despite playing into the wind in the 2nd 15, Youngstars played some very neat football and after a lovely move involving Paul and Dylan, Lloyd crossed the ball for Cammy Brown to squeeze it in at the far post.
It was 3-2 at the halfway mark and Youngstars stretched their lead when Seth turned inside a defender skilfully before planting the ball firmly in the corner to complete an excellent hat-trick. Dylan, who was playing along with Aaron O'Donnell in the absence of Connor and Cameron D, made some excellent runs down the left as Youngstars enjoyed much the better of the third period. Lloyd went close again with a strong shot, but it was still 4-2 at the end of the 3rd 15-minute period.
Dylan went in goal for the last 15 to allow Callum out and immediately, Callum slipped a great pass through for Seth to run away from the defence and score his fourth goal. At 5-2 up, we looked comfortable but another corner - from Broque Watson, a former Youngstars player - swung under the bar as the wind got stronger to make it 5-3. There was disbelief when he did the same again to make it 5-4, but Dylan made a couple of fine, brave saves towards the end as Youngstars hung on for a well-deserved win.
All the boys did really well, with Aaron O, Jack and Jason keeping it really tight at the back, Paul running hard up front and all the boys tackling like tigers and keeping a really good shape and discipline all through the match. a brilliant performance, of which all the boys should be really proud.

BLUES AND BLACKS DRAW 2-2-2008
MYS BLACKS 2 MYS BLUES 2
On a very firm pitch, the two squads played out a good, even game - their first for nearly two months after the foul January weather.
The blues went ahead with a powerful long range shot from Aaran Currie and could have been much further ahead as they totally dominated the first 15-minute period. David made one great save from Liam, who also hit the post, and there were many other close shaves.
The blacks picked up in the second period and equalised when Seth turned away from the defence to blast in a great solo goal. Lloyd then set Seth up for an easy finish with a piece of excellent unselfish play. The blacks dominated the whole of the second period, but couldn't add to their lead.
The third and final 15 was much more open and Aaran Currie equalised after the Blacks failed to clear a corner for a fair result.
Blacks: David, Connor, Cameron D, Jack, Cameron B, Callum, Jason, Lloyd, Blair C, Paul, Seth
Blues: Ross, Blair M, Aaron O, Dylan, Aaran C, Lewis, Euan, Liam, Matthew
