BIG WIN TO END THE SEASON
MYS BLACK STRIPES 11 TRANENT JUNIORS 1
A chaotic start to the match because daft Dave thought it was an away game and sent all our team to Tranent! When we made it to Wallyford, no-one had keys to the container so the kick-off was delayed by nearly half an hour while we fetched some keys to get in.
The delay didn't bother the boys, who set off like a train, with Paul scoring with our first attack and Cammy Brown sweeping in a left-foot second. Lloyd added a third before Cammy Dunlop made it 4 with an excellent left-foot half-volley from a corner.
It was 4-0 after the first of four 15-minute periods and Jason made it 5-0 after good work by Scott, who then made it 6-0 before Lloyd added no 7 - with his left foot!
The third quarter was tighter and Tranent pulled a goal back - but Scott notched his second goal and so did Jason, with the goal of the match (and one of the goals of the season). Scott chipped in a corner to the edge of the box and Jason controlled the ball with his first touch and smacked a belter of a first-time shot into the corner of the net.
In the last 15, Seth finally got a goal after a great run and cross from Jack and Paul finished nicely to make the final score 11-1 for a brilliant end to the season. Well done again to all the boys for their hard work and great skill.

INJURY-TIME PENALTY DENIES BLACKS GREAT WIN 19-06-08
MYS BLACK STRIPES 3 FERNIESIDE 3
An excellent game with Youngstars almost hanging on for a great win before Fernieside equalised with an injury-time penalty.
It was a very blustery night and Youngstars had the wind with them in the first half - but it was Fernieside who took an early lead after a scramble in the box. For the rest of the first 25 minutes, Seth - playing in goal - never had a save to make as Youngstars created a bucket-load of chances. Unfortunately, we only scored one when Scott ran through to smash home. Scott missed a couple more, Paul and Lloyd went close and Cammy Brown smacked a powerful shot off the bar.
At 1-1, Fernieside looked favourites going into the second half with the wind behind them and took the lead when the wind held back a throw-out from second-half keeper Cammy Brown and a striker nipped in to score. However, Youngstars followed instructions to keep the ball on the ground and Paul equalised after good work by Lloyd, Callum and Seth.
We then took the lead when Seth slid a neat ball through for Callum who blasted into an empty goal after the keeper slipped. It looked like we had won but in injury time, Jack brought down a Ferniesdie player just inside the box and the away team's star player smacked in the penalty - beating the excellent Cammy Brown who had kept us in it with some great last-gasp saves.
Well done to all the boys. It's a great reflection on how much we have progressed when we are disappointed with a draw against a team we will be playing in the Edinburgh league next season.

Blue Stripes earn fighting draw 7-6-08
Longniddry Villa 6 -v- 6 MYS Blue Stripes
A fine game all round and pleasing to have a competitive match after a few one sided affairs of late. We dominated for long spells in the game taking an early 0-2 lead however Longniddry caught us several times on the break taking advantage of our slightly makeshift defence. With a bit more luck and composure in front of goal we should really have ground out a victory but it was still a good performance. Goals came from Aarran (2), Euan, Liam, Lewis and debutant Sparky.

GOALS FLY IN 7-6-08
PENCAITLAND 0 MYS BLACKS 19
A very one-sided game, with Youngstars following instructions to stick to their positions and keep it simple. Jack stabbed in the first, Seth scored the second and Cammy Brown got a rare headed goal before Jason and Blair scored from close range and Scott smashed in a sixth.
The goals kept coming at the start of the second of three 15-minute periods, with Paul scoring a cracker high into the net and Callum blasting in an unstoppable shot. Cammy Brown scored another great goal from long range and there was a goal for Brandon befoe Paul, Callum and Blair each got their second to make it 13-0.
Lloyd had spent the middle 15 in goal and hardly been on in the first 15 but made up for it with three goals in the last period. Blair also completed his hat-trick, with Jason and Scott each getting their second as we ended the game with Connor in goal and Seth and Cammy Brown in defence. Only Connor and Cammy D failed to get on the scoresheet.
Scorers: Jack, Seth, Cammy Brown (2), Jason (2), Blair (3), Scott (2), Paul (2), Callum (2), Brandon, Lloyd (3)

BRILLIANT WIN OVER WINDSOR 3-6-2008
MYS BLACKS 6 WINDSOR MARADONA 3
After a series of fairly straightforward games, the blacks put in a magnificent performance to beat the Windsor Maradona squad 6-3.
Without David, Cammy Brown and Cameron Dunlop - all injured - we went behind when Aaron O'Donnell of the blue stripes (who plays for Windsor on Sundays) escaped his marker to bullet in a header from a corner. Youngstars fought back immediately as Seth squeezed in a neat shot from a tight angle to make it 1-1. Seth went close again as the Windsor keeper made a good save, but the visitors made it 2-1 when their striker sneaked away from three Youngstars defenders to score with his left foot.
Paul, who had come on for Callum in left midfield, then won a vital tackle after we cleared a Windsor corner and sent Scott clear to finish coolly. Paul then lifted a lovely pass over a defender for Scott to score again to put us 3-2 up.
That was the score after the first of 2 x 25-minute periods, but Youngstars took a grip after the interval and had by far the better of the game. Blair put in some great work in right midfield, with some terrific throw-ins to set up chances, with Callum causing danger down the left. Lloyd, as ever, was superb in central midfield, but despite creating several chances, it took a while before Connor made it 4-2 when he met a corner with his knee (I think) to knock the ball home through the keeper's legs.
We could have gone further ahead but allowed Windsor back into the game when Ross (covering in goal with David still injured) saved a shot but a striker followed up to net the rebound. At 4-3, it was tight, but Lloyd scored a deserved goal - with his left foot! - and then hammered a shot high into the net to complete a brilliant win.
All the players deserve great credit, with Jack, Jason and Connor all magnificent at the back. There was superb commitment from all the team and some excellent passing football throughout the game. The boys should be very proud of themselves.
