A mixed Blue and Black squad successfully defended the title they won last year at the Musselburgh Windsor tournament morning session. Every player to a man worked their socks off and a fantastic team spirit saw them run out deserved winners in the final.
Our first game against Musselburgh Windsor ended 1-0 but should really have been far more comfortable with a combination of the post, crossbar and goalie combining to shut us out and it was a nervy ending to the match as we were always worried they may snatch an equaliser.
The second match against Currie saw us run out 5-1 winners with some superb wing play from Lloyd and good attacking support from Blair and Euan. Despite having a mixed squad the boys all gelled really quickly and were playing some terrific passing football as well as working hard to get the tackles in where required.
Our third match saw us record a third straight victory with a 3-0 win over Eskmills from Penicuik and this victory was enough to see us into the final without the need to play our final game against Leith Vics who had also qualified by that stage.
The final definitely gave us our toughest game of the day and whilst the trophy was won with a narrow 1-0 victory we created the better of the scoring chances once again hitting the "woodwork" on more than one occasion. Blair Millar was the hero with the winning goal capping off a fine mornings work for him. David Johnstone also pulled off a couple of important stops as the game drew to a conclusion but no single player should be singled out as everyone made a contribution.
Here's to the hat trick next year!
Squad: David, Ross, Aarran O, Jason, Jack, Lloyd, Blair M, Blair C, Euan.
