MYS BLACKS 6 EDINBURGH SOUTH 1, 31-08-2008
A brilliant morale-boosting victory that gives the boys and coaches real confidence that we can cope well in our new league. We played some excellent football and to be honest, the score could have easily been in double figures as we created a huge amount of chances with some lovely passing moves.
Cammy Brown deputised in goal for David, who wasn’t available, but he had an incredibly quiet first half as Youngstars attacked the Edinburgh South goal in waves. A great cross from Jack on the right found Callum, who blasted in at the far post to make it 1-0, then Lloyd released Seth, who slipped it past the keeper to make it 2-0.
Callum hit the bar with another fierce effort and there were several close shaves around the Edinburgh South goal before an unlucky defender headed Lloyd’s shot into his own net. Lloyd made it 4-0 after a superb passing move involving Blair, Seth and Callum.
The most pleasing thing about the first half was some excellent distribution from the back by Connor and Jason, who used the ball really well.
Youngstars eased off a little just after the break and the visitors pulled it back to 4-1 with a good shot that gave Ross, who had taken over in goal for the second half, absolutely no chance. We soon restored out four-goal advantage, however, when Brandon twisted and turned through the defence before finishing with a brilliant shot into the corner.
There was some good defending by Youngstars as Edinburgh South pressed to get back into the game. First, Cammy Brown threw himself in the way of a goalbound shot to block it on the line, then Seth ran back to clear from under the bar after a striker lifted the ball over Ross.
Youngstars continued to create stacks of chances at the other end and should really have had more goals before Jack drilled in a good shot to make the final score 6-1. Real credit to all the boys for a great performance.
Squad: Cameron Brown, Connor, Jason, Jack, Lloyd, Callum, Seth, Branson, Blair, Cameron Dunlop, Ross. (Paul was absent due to illness)
