Blues unlucky in evenly contested match 27-09-09

Dunedin 4 -v- 3 MYS Blue Stripes

A first defeat of the season for the boys but in all fairness they were unfortunate not to take at least a draw with the Dunedin 'keeper pulling off several outstanding saves to keep us out.

We started the match brightly and created several good chances before Euan opened the scoring with a fine finish high into the net. A second followed soon after when Matthew did well to force the keeper into a save which fell out kindly to Blair Currie to finish neatly. From being in control of the game we then switched off a little and allowed the Duneding striker to get in behind our defence and put the ball past Ross. The equaliser for the home team came from a corner whipped into the near post which Ross was unlucky to palm into the net although there was a definite case for him being fouled by a Dunedin player.

The second half was an even affair although we created the best of the scoring chances with the Dunedin keeper having to be on fine form in goal. Euan got his second of the game to put us ahead once more however Dunedin equalised with a fine finish. We lost what was in the end the decisive goal after allowing the Dunedin striker too much time at the edge of the box which let him pick his spot past Ross. Despite creating several chances for an equaliser it just wouldnt come for us although Callum almost scored what would have been goal of the season after volleying a kick out from the Dunedin keeper back from his own half which only narrowly went over! The boys deserve credit for not letting their heads go down at any point and fighting for each other till the death.

A few things to work on in training this week but all in all another good performance, if we can cut out giving away cheap goals to the opposition we will win far more games than we will lose.

Craif was awarded MOTM by the opposition coaches for bravely taking back to the field despite sporting a rapidly blackening after taking a kick in the head.
