Liberton Lions 13 -v- 3 MYS Blue Stripes
MYS blue suffered their largest ever defeat in a game in which too many of our players just didnt compete. From a coaches point of view the biggest dis-appointment was that Liberton were no better individually than us they just worked better as a unit on the day.
As with the previous weeks game against Bonnyrigg we started the match well and took an early lead when a neat passing move between Matthew, Paul and Logan saw the latter slot home. We doubled our lead shortly after with Matthew again involved to fire home a square ball at the back post. Just like the week before however (and just about every other game this season) we were guilty of not taking advantage of our lead and we stopped passing the ball properly allowing Liberton to score 3 goals with some sloppy defending. Euan pulled us level before the break after a long range effort was spilled by the Bonnyrigg keeper.
After being 2 ahead and then level at half time the second half was a complete write off as far as we were concerned. Some strong words from the coach saw us begin brightly however when Liberton scored their fourth we seemed to let our heads go down despite still being in the game. It is also fair to say that our defence was all over the place at times and we shall have to work on positioning over the coming weeks. Credit must go to Liberton for scoring some cracking goals in the second half but the boys have to learn to fight for results where required as there was no way we should have lost this game by ten goals.
Matthew was chosen as MOTM by the opposing coaches after a gritty display which, had it been emulated by some of his team mates, may have resulted in a different scoreline.
