BLACKS EDGED OUT IN A GREAT GAME, 26-04-08

MYS BLACKS 2 NORTH BERWICK AC 3

It's always disappointing to lose but this was one of those cracking games that leaves you upbeat no matter what the final result.

Two well-matched teams played some lovely football and competed for every ball throughout the three 20-minute periods.

North Berwick were very well-organised and had the better of the first period. They took the lead when their star player followed up a rebound to calmly sweep the ball home. But Youngstars hit back immediately as Cammy Brown played a neat ball to Seth, who hammered a shot high into the net from a tight angle.

It was 1-1 after 20 minutes, but North Berwick took control with two goals in quick succession early in the second period. Again, Youngstars didn't let their heads drop and Cammy Brown played in a lovely corner to Lloyd in space on the edge of the box. He looked up and smacked a great shot high into the top corner.

It was 3-2 going into the last 20 and both sides had more chances as the game opened up. Seth had a close-range volley saved and the North Berwick keeper saved well from Callum. The visitors could have stretched their lead when a curling left-footer hit the outside of the post, but Youngstars had chances to draw level, with Cammy Brown having a low shot well-saved near the end.

Jack got the player of the week award for great defending, a brilliant never-say-die attitude and some marauding runs forward - but all the team deserved credit. Poor Connor had to go home early after hurting his back.
