The jump from 7-a-side to 11-a-side will be a steep one when it comes, so we were happy to take an 11s friendly as an early experiment to see how things might work out in future.

We brought in Dylan and Euan from the MYS blues stripes squad to allow us plenty of chance to rotate the players. It wasn't QUITE a full-sized pitch - we played with 7-a-side goals on the edge of the six-yard box, but the playing area still seemed absolutely enormous.

We adapted better to the conditions, harrying Tranent for the ball and using it quite well when we had it. Jack was making some lung-bursting dashes forward and after Callum had a good long range effort saved, it was Jack who gave us the lead. He ran forward powerfully, slipped a lovely ball wide to Scott and was in just the right place to score from close range as Scott drove the ball across the face of goal.

With Lloyd holding his position well in deep midfield and Dylan all over the pitch (from right back) we maintained almost complete territorial superiority. Scott smacked a brilliant left foot shot back off the bar but we finally made it 2-0 when Seth nudged on a good through ball and Euan latched onto it to tuck the ball confidently past the keeper.

We moved Dylan forward in the second half and he capped a strong performance by scoring from the edge of the box. Seth made it 4-0 with a snapshot on the turn that surprised the keper at his near post and Euan nipped in to capitalise on a sloppy pass out to score off the post to make it 5.

Cammy Brown had a very quiet night in goal, but Dylan, Connor, David and Jason (and later Jack) did well at the back to protect him - and also did well bringing the ball out and trying to find the pass. Brandon, Blair and Cameron Sharp also played their part in an excellent all-round performance. A very good exercise for a group of boys really growing in confidence and with a developing team spirit.
