MYS Blue Stripes 8 -v- 1 Aberlady
Aberlady have always been something of a bogey side for us and, despite dominating some matches and beating them in tournament play, we had never secured a league victory over them until Saturday when we made up for it!
This was one of, if not the best, performance we have put in this season with all the boys putting their lacklustre display the previous weeks against the Black Stripes behind them. We dominated the opening stages of the match however it was Ross who was required to pull off a terrific save first to keep the match all square as he tipped a fierce close range effort over the bar. Shortly afterwards we got the breakthrough we deserved when Josh broke free on the left and whipped in a good cross which Blair Millar did well to head back across the keeper into the far corner.
The second goal followed shortly after and again came from a header as Matthew curled a first time cross to the back post for Josh to stoop low and direct it in. Matthew followed his assist up by robbing the Aberlady defender near the half way line, sprinting clear and tucking his shot away neatly at the right hand post.
Into the second half we continued our good play and took control of the game with a fourth goal before some sloppy defending allowed Aberlady to pull one back from a corner. We need to remember that losing slack goals like that can be the difference between winning and losing in tight games. This setback didnt affect us too much though and we pushed on to score 4 more goals with Lloyd adding his name to the list of scorers as well as an Aberlady deflected own goal.
Matthew won the MOTM award however the whole team perfomed brilliantly from Ross in goals and the solid defence right through midfield to the forward line. Well done, a good birthday perfomance for coach PC!
